I think the point being made is that they haven't been trying "different experimental solutions", they've been trying the same one... "throw money at it just like we have been... free needles, free housing, etc". Where are the new "different" ideas? Sounds like the same old ideas that haven't worked so far to me.

Every day I feed the stray cats in hope that they'll go away. Every day the stray cats show up with new friends, who would also like some food. I'm fairly certain that today is the day the cats will go away, because I gave them extra last night.

(It's currently only knowable through tarot cards if the cats will come by tonight.)

It has been asserted, but not 'pointed out.'

JD pointed out that we don't have a good counterfactual example of what the homeless increase would have been without the services. Without that, the relationship between the services and the homeless rates is just a correlation, and not a strong one, since homelessness and population density correlate pretty strongly irrespective of services. The point was ignored every time he made it, so I assume it will be ignored again.

Either way, we are still conflating voluntary/drug addicted homeless services with policies to help the working poor with housing near their jobs. This may also be a bad idea, but it is a different bad idea.

Or, people aren't meaningfully different than cats or birds.
