He knows who owns every store in the big apple because he went there once, and he knows the big corporations run all the farms because he planted some tomatoes in his backyard.
Take notes, people.
Take notes, people.

I told him in the decline thread that his nonsense posting has been on the rise. I can't fathom why he thinks you can't own a small business in Manhattan. They are literally everywhere.
Why are all the Gods such vicious cunts? Where's the God of tits and wine?

I didn't even pick it!Haumana wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 1:58 pmThe real estate prices are a given. I recently cashed out of the Bay Area market which runs neck and neck with Manhattan. Entrepreneurs still exist even in those markets. The cost to play the game doesn't necessarily make the game prohibitive to play. A quick Google and there are several "Mom and Pop" type businesses in Manhattan on this list by Business Insider.GrumpyCatFace wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 1:47 pmOnce, and did not enjoy it. I'm no expert on it, but I do know that the real estate prices are particularly insane there.
You pick some weird hills to die on.

Kath posted an article weeping for the 'little guys' that were hurt in Manhattan by the wicked wall street protesters. I simply dared to doubt that they were really 'mom n pop' joints.
Obviously, OWS turned into a bit of a shit-show, and was effectively neutralized by the establishment. I think it was a massive lost opportunity, but an interesting display of how the system protects itself. That's about it.

And you were proven wrong, repeatedly, for pages, and yet you still claim you can't own a small business in Manhattan.GrumpyCatFace wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 2:11 pmI simply dared to doubt that they were really 'mom n pop' joints.

Urban politics don't really discourage small businesses at all. Chicago is covered in them. I suspect the political machine prefers it because it is not really possible to shake down corporations with all the P2P bribery schemes. Walmart is a lot more powerful than an alderman or some building inspector.

So you do think that there are mom n pop shops in Manhattan but they weren't represented in the article? Because it sure seemed like you were arguing that there are no mom n pop shops in Manhattan at all. Why else post the square footage cost of real estate?GrumpyCatFace wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 2:11 pmI didn't even pick it!

I sincerely doubt that there are many. I could be wrong, but the kind of money that it would take to open one in the last century is quite prohibitive.Haumana wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 2:19 pmSo you do think that there are mom n pop shops in Manhattan but they weren't represented in the article? Regardless, to cast shade on OWS because of some isolated incident or two involving a genuine mom n' pop joint is pretty disingenuous at best. I really don't see how it fits into the story at all, other than as a side note. It's not a good thing, but it certainly doesn't change my opinion of the overall event in the slightest.
