I thought, and still suspect its has to do with the ability to detect pitches, but there's something I don't quite get. As we get older we cant hear higher feequencies, so I played an audio file that increased in pitch. I can detect higher frequencies than my wife, so I'm not quite sure why she hears what she hears.

There’s nothing confusing about it.
I hear Yanny. Nothing confusing about it for me, either.
Tried it on my phone, and laptop, and asked the gf what she heard. Laurel all around....

What's your point? You think those of us who are saying we hear Yanny are liars?
Why are all the Gods such vicious cunts? Where's the God of tits and wine?

I just asked my wife what she heard, no prompting. She said "yammy" actually.

My point is that it's either

A) A social experiment - different people get different sounds
B) Something VERY different between audio devices
C) Uncovering some very interesting differences in human hearing.

Well, current thought is it is some combination of B & C, but the experts say they don't know for sure.

I doubt your theory that it's A/B testing.

People are unable to hear different frequencies for sure, which is what I suspect is at play, but its still a little puzzling. I listened to it with my wife together on my phone, and without any prompting on what the words could be, said she said that she heard "yammy", while I clearly heard "laurel".
