I think Gerard is on the right track, but he misses a lot, IMO.
The key thing he misses is that voters have been looking for an alternative to the status quo candidate for at least a decade, and it could be argued a generation. BHO was supposed to be the Progressive version of that, but he only further entrenched the establishment.

Second I would say Liberals need to understand their ideas have been rejected, harshly. And their candidates too.

What Gerard is describing throughout the piece is that Liberals are horrible bigots. They disdain anyone with another opinion and will literally spend years spewing hatred on every available platform. Bigotry like that is something average folks avoid and move away from, because they see it for what it is, irrational hatred.
