Royal Wedding

Post by Montegriffo »

So, who's getting excited about Harry and Meghan? Not every day an American marries into the Royal family, last time it took an abdication and exile to the Carribbean.
At least she isn't a Catholic.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

I'll have it on while cleaning the house on Saturday morning. It's something I do for my mother, tbh. She made me get up to watch Charles & Diana get married. I think I was in 10th grade, so I wasn't thrilled with having to get up at 4:00 a.m. on a Saturday during summer break. She asked me to come over to watch the funeral, so I did. I had to watch the Oscars with her every year, too.

Now it's just habit - I get to spend the day thinking about her and how much she'd go nuts for this, while I'd poke a little fun without hurting her feelings. I'll probably cry, but it will have absolutely nothing to do with the wedding. Damn, I miss my mom so fucking much.

I did it for William & Kate, too. They pretty much show it non-stop on one of the channels, so it will play from 7:00 a.m. till much later in the day; they will just keep re-running it. Nerd thinks I should get up at 5:00 a.m. to watch all the pre-game stuff. "Do it for your mom!!"

As far as the pomp & circumstance - it's good for the local economy. I mean, come on - who wouldn't want to be seen at the beach wearing this stuff?

And the hat makers - let's not forget about them!

OTOH - I do not envy Meghan - she may have chosen love, but her life is never going to be hers again. She can't so much as have a scuff on her shoe without it being reported. Who wants to sign up for that? Blech.

Pretty sure I'd rather constantly refresh my podfeed waiting for a new episode of Common Sense.

They've had a good three hundred year run for usurpers.

Everyone is a usurper to the guy who was there before. We've had a good 300 year run ourselves, just ask the native people.

She's a famous actress, her life is already not her own. She will be much better prepared for the attention than Diana was. Diana went a bit crazy with it all.

Should get loads of great images of Windsor castle and some elaborate pageantry but I doubt I'm going to let it interfere with Bungay Balls Up which starts on Friday. I've got a trebuchet to repair...

In the grand scheme of things, that is far more important.

PS - Suits only had about a million people watching, so that's well over 300 million Americans who never heard of her before Harry. I certainly never did.

She wasn't a famous actress - nothing that can come close to what she's dealing with now. Even if she's more equipped to handle it, she still can't ever be out in public with so much as a stain, a scuff, a hair out of place, something falling out of her pocket ....

one wrong word and it's the top story in the tabloids for at least two days.

She has a political agenda to push with her much increased public image, I think she'll be alright.
I'm looking forward to her bringing diversity to the Royal family, and a fresh gene pool.

Yeah... I’m good on all that.

Sorry about your mom, Kath. Keep her with you, always.
