The Battle for John McCain's Legacy has already begun

The Legacy of John McCain
https://www.azcentral.com/story/opinion ... 494906001/

John McCain has been known for my lifetime as the Hero of the Hanoi Hilton who refused return to the US until everyone was released. However, some veterans are telling a different story; the story of Songbird John, Vietnamize Collaborator.

Where do you stand on John McCain ?

I know the Mids aren't too fond of him....

I don't question someone breaking down in the Hanoi Hilton.....it's what he did when he got back to the states that leaves a sour taste in the mouths of most grads....

I tend to agree.
My position on his Hanoi Hilton time is that he was likely a collaborator, it's the worst thing you can do as a US Servicemember. But I wasn't there, so I really don't get to judge him. However his comrades in the Hanoi Hilton get to. It's certainly not as clear cut as the prevailing opinion in the press.

Increasingly over time as he's gained more power he's become more dispicable.

You can judge him for setting an aircraft carrier on fire and getting away with it.

Wouldn't be surprised if crew chiefs or avionics troops pulled the power relay to his countermeasures before he launched, hoping he'd get shot down.

Did you know they had to actually sneak him off the aircraft carrier he set light to so that the crew wouldn't murder him?

Yeah, he fucked up on that one trying to do a Wet Start. Caused the deaths of what, 150 Seamen ?
To be Fair, Snopes says not True https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/john- ... forrestal/

Here's a run down of McCains 'accidents' as a Naval Aviator, it's not impressive.

I can't definitively find his Navy Call Sign, I've seen to claims, 'Crash' and 'Playboy'

Can’t say I agree with digging around into the tortured guy’s past.

If the other guys wanna say something sure... but the Vietnamese guy saying they “never tortured anyone” wtf ever. Makes anything else he says bullshit it my mind.

That was pretty much his position on the American POWs he abandoned.

The Viet Commies were masters at rope torture, pretty horrible stuff. However, Large statured American POWs learned that they could easily intimidate their 5 foot tall 100 pound captures pretty easily. They feared big Americans.

Here's a glowing write up of McCain from Harvard. Lauding him as a Maverick, defender of the military and Foreign Policy Strategist.
https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/ ... ce=twitter

The article says he has been very influential in the Ukraine, Pacific and Middle East. I just don't see those as brilliant moves for the US. The Ukraine is a mess, and in the Middle East McCain was involved with Libya and the creation of ISIS.
