The 'Obby 'Oss festival in Padstow, Cornwall, sees the town decorated with flowers, flags, greenery, and a maypole. Two groups of dancers make their way through the town, one of each team dressed in a stylized recreation of a horse - or 'oss. Led by "teasers", the osses are paraded through the town accompanied by dancers, drums and accordions. During the various dances young women may be "dragged" under the cloak of the oss as a portrayal of a fertility rite. It was once said that women caught beneath the veil would be pregnant within the year

We have a Maypole here on the farm which gets dug out of the shed once a year to go to the local Rumborough fayre.
That's cool. That's one festival I've never seen that I believe I would enjoy.

Way to keep those Pagan Traditions alive Monte

People gathered on Glastonbury Tor, Somerset, to watch the sun rise and celebrate Beltane. Druids and pagans celebrate Beltane as the beginning of summer and the chance to celebrate the coming of the season of warmth and light

May 1 is a rather somber day.

Victims of Communism Day 2018
May Day is a fitting time to commemorate the tens of millions of victims of this murderous ideology.

Today is May Day.

Since 2007, I have advocated using this date as an international Victims of Communism Day. I outlined the rationale for this proposal (which was not my original idea) in my very first post on the subject:

May Day began as a holiday for socialists and labor union activists, not just communists. But over time, the date was taken over by the Soviet Union and other communist regimes and used as a propaganda tool to prop up their [authority]. I suggest that we instead use it as a day to commemorate those regimes' millions of victims. The authoritative Black Book of Communism estimates the total at 80 to 100 million dead, greater than that caused by all other twentieth century tyrannies combined. We appropriately have a Holocaust Memorial Day. It is equally appropriate to commemorate the victims of the twentieth century's other great totalitarian tyranny. And May Day is the most fitting day to do so….

Yep, double checked, doesn't exist in Wikipedia. While they have all kinds of useless observances like hot dog day or plaid day, they don't list the much more important day to remember 100 million victims of the Communist Holocaust.
