Accurate memory and repetition are horrible things
Students don't need to think for themselves unless they can read and write. Which they can't.
Memes are awesome arguments.
I'm for keeping it to the "Trivium". Plenty of fine writers (if not most of them pre 1900) were educated that way. Plus we have horrible reading/writing achievement in this nation. And literacy rates are awful. Reading levels are so low in most areas most of the time. We need to prioritize English, fuck everything else.

Then we'd no longer be able to launch satellites, cure diseases, innovate in computing technology, or whatever else could come next (robots?). But we'd be able to write poetry to each other and quote Wordsworth.

One has to be literate to understand History, Science, Engineering etc. etc. Its obviously the most important of the Core Subjects.

If only we spent more money on educating our students.

Throwing money at the school system sure has been paying phenomenal dividends.

Paying top dollar for middling-low results.
Obviously money is the issue.

WV teachers get a 5% raise, along with all other state workers getting the same. I read that as, the teachers got a raise, and we're giving ourselves one as well.
So where will the additional 5% ($20 million) come from? According to lawmakers, it's not coming from increased taxes. Instead, the money will come from cutting in other areas of the state budget, like general services and Medicaid. Be on the lookout for Dems and Medicaid recipients in WV to begin making noise about cuts to that as soon as this takes effect. Teachers won't care, because they got theirs.
