Sort of a Love/Hate thing at best, coal mining.

Well, for people who immigrated to this country from shitholes, these were the best jobs they could get and they were the only people willing to do the work. They were taken advantage of by their employers and used as near slave labor to power every major city in this nation for damn near 100 years.

So you have these communities see, that played by the rules. They worked hard and sacrificed for their country on the battlefield and in the coal mines and they were ardent Democrats, being Union and all. So as just as their industry hits extremely hard times the party they supported for decades brags about how many families in the Appalachia they put on food stamps. Turns their back on them because "white rural America is dying" and spreads open their arms for the newest cheap labor in town.

Dude, the coal industry is dying and I would say that it's actually Natural Gas that is killing it. People need to move on because Trump won't save coal and its dying. Better to have the employees be retrained in some other field and have it like that. IF there are employees close to retirement maybe pay them out, have them keep their 401Ks/pensions but overall, do not encourage another generation of coal mining because it's not going to last any longer.

Hardly. It would be worse for them to keep doing it, and not advance in the world. It’s far more heartless to keep people mining for no reason other than dependency.

Plus, are you really advocating for more black lung cases and early deaths at a slave wage? What exactly does it benefit for us to keep a dangerous and outdated industry around? Not to mention absurd levels of pollution and more sickness downstream (literally)
