Peter Thiel, the technology billionaire, submitted a bid this week to purchase Gawker.com, the remaining unsold property from the Gawker Media gossip empire that was nearly destroyed in 2016 by a lawsuit largely bankrolled by Mr. Thiel.

He also had the perfect oppurtunity. He financed the hulk Hogan case. I would say naw. Gawker built a lot of enemies they would still be cool with them. As for the smug "corporations have no rights but a media company can do no wrong" types they vilified him plenty.

It appears they outed him after he threw ten million in the ring to help erase gawker. It doesn't appear to be a reaction to their aggression but rather their reaction to his aggression.
