That's why we barely see movies coming out from the Arab world.BjornP wrote:Most Egyptians actually descended from the same Egyptians that always been there. They're just Arabized to various degrees depending on wether they're Coptic or Muslim. Anyway, preservation or respect of history just isn't ingrained in most of the Arab world, even one as steeped in history as Egypt. They're like Europe before the Rennaisance, just using the stones of ancient temples to plug a hole in their walls at home, or melt down thousand year old gold coins. Also doesn't help that there's alot of money to be made selling to private collectors. Saudi Arabia is even more grotesque. They've destroyed several ancient buildings connected to the history of Islam, and even wanted to destroy Muhammed's tomb. All based on a reading of the Koran where they interpret reverence of the past, in the form of historical places, as a form of idolatry. Wahhabism, everyone! :slowclap: :facepalm:Montegriffo wrote:
Bloody shame, such little respect for the heritage of the country. Most of the Arabs aren't descended from the ancient Egyptians so don't see it as their culture or history. The Nubians and Coptic Christians were the nicest locals I met. Bedouin in the Sinai were a nice bunch though and they had the best grass.

No, they make plenty of movies. So do the Hungarians, though.... and when's the last time you saw a Hungarian movie?

Nevermind that you don't need huge Hollywood budgets to make movies, you do realize that "The Arab World" isn't a country, right?

Try reading it again and see if you can work out what point he was making.Hwen Hoshino wrote:You started comparing what i said to a small country for no reason.BjornP wrote:Nevermind that you don't need huge Hollywood budgets to make movies, you do realize that "The Arab World" isn't a country, right?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

No. Not for no reason. That reason being that:Hwen Hoshino wrote:You started comparing what i said to a small country for no reason.BjornP wrote:Nevermind that you don't need huge Hollywood budgets to make movies, you do realize that "The Arab World" isn't a country, right?
1. The Arab speaking world produces plenty of movies and tv.
2. Arab movies are not popular outside the Arab-speaking world.
3. That it why you barely see any Arab movies. Not Western network or streaming service would consider buying a good deal. How many Americans for that matter watch movies and TV in a non-English language?

1. That you don't know them is just evidence that you don't know them. Not that they don't exist.
2. Look at the list below. France produces the 5th most movies in the world. Yet how many French movies or TV series do you watch? How many French TV series and movies can you name, and how many French TV series and movies do people you know watch? Again, even you can't name any, don't watch any or your friends don't watch any, doesn't mean that France in 2003 produced the fifth largest amount of movies.
There are simply cultural reasons we watch shows from one cultural region, but not another cultural region. For one thing, the points of reference from a show or movie where they to a vast extent believe totally different things about the world than you do, can make it hard to follow the plot.
3. No idea.
Stats from 2003:
http://www.nationmaster.com/country-inf ... s-produced
Egypt at #24'th.
Denmark at 23rd, yet I think Brits and Americans are alot more familiar with TV series from my country than those from Egypt, even if we don't really export much TV and movies.
