Which would include the best possible place to live in Islamic world in the medieval period. Like I said you both agree on the best place in the Islamic world to live during that time period.

@glory of greece
I'm assuming I would have been born into the culture and therefore fluent in the language etc.

Don't ignore this thread... it's illustrative of the limits of certain imaginations.
I wasn't hoping everyone would ignore the thread, just DSL's attempts to derail it.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

You guys are so blind to your love affair with Islam. The rest of us see it pretty clearly. Islam is fucking horrible and has no place in our civilization, and yet you are so invested in it that you want to believe there was some mythical period where Islamic civilization was not like ISIS. That's just a mistake. It's always awful. Everywhere. Always.

What was the most stable least violent time for Feudal Japan? And is it true that farmers and artisans were respected more than merchants?

If you ask me where I would live today it would definitely not be in a Muslim nation. Not in the running whatsoever.
But the OP defined the Medieval period.
That was probably the worst time period for Christian nations.
China and the Islamic world were both flourishing more than Europe during the majority of the middle ages.

I didn't choose China because I know relatively little about it...
A know quite a bit about Andalusia because of my family background... which wasn't Islamic that I know of... but probably had some interbreeding way back. (Some suspect there were jewish conversos in my grandfather's lineage.)

That's just a myth, man. Islam was always horrible. Lots of Europe was just fine in the medieval period. If the question were framed in that period between late antiquity and the medieval period (like the 600s), then sure. There was a total economic and political collapse in Western Europe back then.

I'd choose 13th century Norwich. At the height of the wool trade it was Englands second city and very prosperous. The cathederal, castle and some parts of the city wall still stand and I think I would be able to navigate myself around it comparing locations to how they are today. Pulls ferry would look a little different but parts of it are from that era.

The cathedral would look much the same as today but only 100 years old rather than 850.

same with the castle keep

the castle present day

I think I could be quite content in a medieval English town like that.
