At Least 48 Dead in Russia After Drinking Scented Bath Lotion
At least 48 people died in the Siberian city of Irkutsk after consuming hawthorn-scented bath lotion containing methanol as a cheap substitute for the ethanol in standard alcoholic beverages, the Russian authorities said on Monday.
“This is a complete disgrace and clearly we should put an end to it,” Mr. Medvedev told a cabinet meeting on Monday. “Such liquids should simply be banned.”
The list of consumer products containing alcohol is about a mile long. Maybe banning a quarter of the grocery store isn't the answer.

Local investigators detained seven people on suspicion of distributing the liquid and discovered a workshop where they said the substance was produced. Around 2,000 bottles of it were seized from local stores.
It sounds like they were some kind of knockoff bath-liquid street drug. That may be what the guy wants to ban.

Death toll rose to 52. There was a warning on the bottles of bathing oil that it shouldn't be consumed, but apparantly getting drunk on... anything containing alcohol... is a thing amongst Russians in poor areas of the country.

A Russian plane has disappeared from radar just minutes after take-off from the Black Sea resort of Sochi, Russian media say.
They are quoting a source at the emergency ministry as saying the missing aircraft is a Tu-154.
Between 70 and 100 people are reported to be on board the plane.
Unconfirmed reports say the aircraft belongs to the defence ministry, flying to Syria's Latakia province. Russian officials have so far made no comment.
