Have you listened to one of his Personality course lectures? He's clearly well versed in clinical and theoretical psychology (which he should be) He's taught for years at Harvard University and Toronto. Those are decent schools, no?
His Maps of Meaning course series is more than Biblical stories and is quite interesting when pointing out archetypal images that reappear throughout time and translate into modern day cartoons quite easily and effectively. That doesn't seem horribly negative or nonintellectual. That's just me then o well. I will say for me personally the pronoun thing is the least interesting of all his content out there.
