Isn't a consequence of freedom that we see these degenerate behaviors and selfishness? Amusement, self aggrandizement, boredom, etc. can and will be pursued by many if they have the ability to go down those paths.

Depends what you mean by these words we use. I see liberty used synonymously with license, which are two different things.

There's a book in traditional Catholic circles titled Liberty: The God that Failed, which goes into this a lot better than I could. The author is pretty interesting, but possibly only if you are a Catholic intellectual would it be worth your time.

He's still a lawyer, though, and Catholic lawyers are probably pretty dangerous.

Anyhoo.. Ferrara's thesis is that the only way to solve this pickle in which our civilization finds itself is a reconstruction of Christendom. I am not sure how feasible that would be, but I do happen to think it might be possible to do it in a small-scale somewhere as a kind of civilizational life raft as the rest of this thing disintegrates.

Man, something needs to be reconstructed. I grew up with the United Methodist Church with one-fourth of my family, in rural west Tennessee. Here's the current state of the UMC:

Lesbian Bishop Calls Jesus a Bigot
United Methodist Church bishop Dr. Karen Oliveto is not only a lesbian, she also believes (and publicly teaches) that Jesus was a bigot filled with prejudices. She does say that Jesus grew and changed, and that's her point. Bishop Oliveto admonishes, "If Jesus can change, if he can give up his bigotries and prejudices, if he can realize that he had made his life too small, and if, in this realization, he grew closer to others and closer to God, than so can we."

My head hurts.

Well, Jordan B Peterson says he has a lot of fans now calling themselves Christian Atheists. He doesn't really know how to interpret it yet but perhaps it's some kind of way forwards.
It sure beats the so called New Atheists. They don't have any answers. It's just a new flavor of nihilism.
Imagine I was one just a short time ago.

I don't know. I think our civilization is just too broken to put it back together the way it was. The more I thought about the idea of civilizational life rafts, the more I think that epitomizes what I want. I want to break things up and let us try different experiments around what is left of our civilization. Some of them are bound to survive and flourish, and from that a new civilization can emerge while all the rest of this has decayed into a new dark age.

And we really are sliding pretty fast into a dark age.

Also, if you want to go to a multi-racial society, some kind of New Christendom would be the way to go about it. They would possess a unifying factor and a coherent, single civilizational arc. It would be very different, but doable. It makes sense too that the Catholic Church would be the ones to build a civilizational life raft like they did the last time western civilization collapsed. They would have to make it extremely academic and scientific. It would have to be very high-functioning, with a much higher density of universities and research. I am not sure what economy would support all that, though.

A lot of Muslim refugees here in Europe are converting. They wander into a church and like what they find. A lot of them has received a lot of help from the Christian Churches as well.
I'm talking about legit war refugees here, not the fortune seeking immigrants from poor countries. They don't want salvation. Only gibs.
