Brewster - you prepared to use force to take 70% of people's income? Fuck it- Brewster doesn't have to get hand dirty - Congress and the DoD will do the dirty work for Comrade Brewster. All Brewster has to do is vote for tyranny my the majority...
Turns out all these .1% faggots think it's a great idea to open the borders to whoever wants to mosey on in so I'm kind of like OCA atm and am thinking, fuck it. Go ahead and tax these shits.

It was literally a product of capitalism. Ireland produced enough food to feed those people. Instead the food was exported to England because that was more profitable. A million people died as a result.
Ireland grew enough food to sustain the lives of their people and a significant portion of English people. Famine killed the potato supply. So now someone is going to starve, either in Ireland or England. The people in Ireland starved. Cause: potato blight.
Not cause: capitalism
No, a disease killed the potatoes that the subsistence farmers were depending upon, and that -- combined with the fact that most of the food produced by commercial farmers was being exported to England -- is what caused the famine.

It wasn't everybody in Ireland. It was all the subsistence farmers. Most of the western world ran on family farms back then.

The calories vanished.
Human consumption had to make up for the debt.
Whether Irish lives, English lives, or other lives reliant upon those potato calories paid the debt has no bearing on the cause-and-effect.

Capitalism may have decided where that bill was paid, but it did not create the debt. The same cannot be said for Stalinism.

You can't be honest about anything. No one has proposed taking 70% of ANYONE'S income! The proposal was 70% of income over some millions of dollars, which you sure ain't in that bracket. And for those who can do math, that means No One would pay 70%, since they pay less on what's below that bracket. This is nothing but populist fear-mongering and ignorance spreading.

As is much of the talking points here. You sound simply stupid when you make everything B&W. Saying everything economically left is Marxist is as stupid as saying everything economically right from American capitalism to Russian kleptocracy to the Libertarian Paradise some wish for is exactly the same. When you scorch the earth of the middle ground, no wonder no one can meet there.
Do you realize that some people here on this forum are part of the 1%?

And yes people would pay the 70% because you know it won't stop at individuals right?

That post makes less sense than a David Brooks column.

The pursuit of profit and the absence of tariffs is what sent most of the food to England while a million Irish starved to death. False moral equivalences do not erase that fact.

Flat Tax is the idea that rich people pay too much taxes, and the poor don’t pay enough.
Well when the poor effectively pay 0, is that enough?
So, who makes up what the rich don’t pay? (And people wonder about the vanishing Middle Class.)
Makes up? Makes Up what? Here is a novel idea how about we live within our means. Maybe we shouldnt be spending 3.2 trillion a year.
At this point arguing about Pg1 of the tax code, Flat vs Progressive, is moot if the other 1000 pages remain.

The Irish Potato famine happened as a combination of potato blight (and they were only growing one kind of potato so were susceptible to complete crop failure) with landlords owning most of the arable land and exporting most of the food to England where market prices were higher.

It was definitely partly a failure of not containing capitalism. The pursuit of profit does not always end in good outcomes. People who believe that worship money.
Sounds a lot like our Midwest corn empire, actually.
