Re: Bought my first house
our side now is like the Soviets under Khrushchev
going into Cuba for Fidel Castro
that was all about being Woke, Fidel Castro was woke, Moscow was determined to save him
they came very close to annihilation for that
Curtis LeMay had 800 B-52's at failsafe just outside Russian airspace, and the Russians had nothing to stop him

Re: Bought my first house
you can invoke MAD as if this is 1962
but this is not 1962
that America is gone
America in the now, is not a rational actor
America now, is behaving like the Bolsheviks
if lunatics had been running things in Washington in 1962, we'd all be living in the stone age now

Re: Bought my first house
it's like Dan Carlin invoking the Nuclear Football
well who has their finger on the button now ?
literal lunatics right out of Orwell's 1984
we are not a rational actor anymore, you can't rely on MAD as if this is John Kennedy steering the ship

Re: Bought my first house
MAD has always been pie-in-the-sky optimism, anyway. It's mostly propaganda. Same with the concept of Nuclear Winter. There's no real data to support it based on how Nuclear weapons behave.

Re: Bought my first house
if there had been an interpolar exchange in 1983 with 25,000 warheads including mutlimegaton City Killers ?
that would have been Nuclear Winter
the thesis of Nuclear Winter was based on the situation at the time
the mistake with MAD is that people invoke it as assurance, as if deterrence was assurance, which it's not

This is very convincing.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 6:50 amfrom the Russian point of view, it's not just the WestXenophon wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 6:42 am
We spent decades fighting communism only to become a worse, gayer version of it.
The Russian Federation defined marriage as between a man and a woman in their constitutional referendum last year, as well as making reference to God in their constitution. Our Constitution doesn't contain a single reference to God. The Southern Constitution did, I'll add.
If it came to an engagement between the US and the Russians, the Russians would have a willing fifth column in the form of right-wing Christians. I wonder how much of those constitutional amendments are aimed at international support of Christian enclaves.
we are subordinating ourselves to their actual mortal enemies, the Chinese Communists in Beijing
now, if you were the Russians, with the Woke coming at you from one direction, and Xi Jingping coming from the other
and you did not have a massive conventional force to match them
pretty sure you'd be ready to warm up your nukes
not saying you would launch an all out strike over the pole
but theater thermonuclear deescalation to force the communists to BTFO, that would definitely be on the table

America should have been deterred from going into Vietnam, but she went anyways
deterrence works, up to a certain threshold
but when you are backs against the wall in the face of subjugation by godless communist totalitarians, you're gonna warm up your nukes

Re: Bought my first house
it's like I am frightened of the lunatics who have seized control of the West
I can imagine what my Russian counterpart is feeling
if I was him, I would be ready to get it on
don't have to launch interpolar to give the enemy pause
nuclear deterrence is not a monolith
Nuclear Deescalation is a nuclear deterrent strategy as well
use tactical nuclear weapons in theater to stop the enemy at the gates, before they force me into an all out war of annihilation

Jeez people, what are you getting lulled into here?
Johnny Cochran sophistry has a nice meter to it but its foundation is still bullshit. No one said deterrence is assurance - but it is most assuredly STILL deterrence. Strong deterrence at that, when we're talking about a possible end to the species. Likewise China and Biden aren't coming at the Russian borders. Nor are nukes are being warmed up. Step back from the punch bowl folks.
