Thinking of James Garner you should see Streets of Laredo if you like gritty westerns. It's the best of the Lonesome Dove series since the first one.

Just watched April Morning on Amazon. Holy cow what a gem.
Was looking for movies about the revolution to help a kid with history class. Very well made, really captured the feel of the early rebellion.
