Ruff stuff. I get it, been there done that. What's mostly mine is yours except for your best interest. Savor it is all one can do.
I had to put my other dog down last year

I had a feeling of dread going into that

but now that I have been through that, I know how it goes, I'm prepared for it now

it is tough, my wife let out a wail when Kima collapsed into her arms, it gutted me

but now I feel stronger, I can do it again, I'll just lean on the Lord
We did hospice with our last pup. We won't be doing that again. We had euthanized our other dog and a couple of cats before that. There ain't no good alternatives when it comes to forever goodbyes. Stronger for sure but never easier.
well my wife was thrashing around looking for a way to extend the life, surgery or something

but it wasn't going to buy much time, a whole lot of suffering just for a few more months

so I had to be the husband, I made the command decision, let's get it done, quick & painless

and it was, Kima was sitting up eating liver treats, no cares in the world

I nodded to the vet, she put the needle in, and in just a few seconds, Kima was gone

all dogs go to Heaven, we will see her on the otherside

Hastur, do city folks ever get the opportunity to go bird hunting in Sweden nowadays?
Oh, yes. Hunting is big here. Even if you live in a town, you can join a team in the countryside for hunting. We have a big surplus of game in many parts of Sweden right now. Especially wild boar, red deer and fallow deer. Roe deer and moose is always plentiful.

Popular game fowl are pheasant, capercaillie, grouse and wood pigeon. And various waterfowl.
Cool. I knew a little about the ducks. That pic of the pheasant dish got me to thinking about how the upland is probably full of them and other smaller birds. Are there any quail?

It does go quick. Hospice was a motherfucker. We hung with Ipo all the way to the door. We had pain meds to manage the journey but the reality of our carcasses just failing on us isn't a pretty sight. We had already been there done that with two humans so it wasn't blithely chosen but damned if it didn't solidify the idea of wanting a sleep cocktail for me if push comes to shove.

we loved her, she brightened up our lives

we miss her, but we count our blessings, godspeed Kima

We have some quail. It's starting to recover. It was hunted almost to extinction. The most priced birds here are the rock- and willow ptarmigans up in northern Sweden.

They are sob stories. But I understand your statement. No regrets. We done right by our doggies and they reciprocated. It doesn't make it any less painful though. Final is final and I both miss what was (but not to the point of debilitation) but appreciate that time we got to walk the same path. The next shoe to drop is our female, Lucy, who is my wife's right hand man(?) woMAN. I fear that that is going to be the roughest of them all so far for her.

it really wasn't

it was growth, my wife & I got stronger

it was a journey, there was pain, but there was joy as well

once we got through the crucible, we were uplifted by the memories come flooding back
