Not so fast.

You can play in an arena together.

I haven't heard anything about multiplayer in the regular universe.
You can play with other players, but unless you have some predetermined location to meet up, good luck finding them.

I have heard of people finding other player's bases and looting them.

The stargates make it easier to get together in the wider galaxy.

Tribes 2 had 64 player arenas 17 years ago.

I thought the premise was that people understood they were buying an unfinished universe when they got it the first time. Why would an autist care about a complete and finished project anyway? They are too concerned with out jewing the loot boxes.
Simple, I don't pay full price for a half-assed, barely ¼ finished game.

I pay if anything a funding price in knowing full well the product may never get done, but also if it does, get first benefits of being a first on the floor sponsor/founder.

Yeah, and the game was amazing. Of course Quake/Team Fortress also did too back 22 years ago.

Tribes was the first team team based online multiplayer FPS.

BZZZZ wrong!

Quake Team Fortress came out 1996
Tribes came out 1998.

Two years later.

This. It was Quake.

No. You're both wrong.

The original team fortress was a Quake mod. Quake didn't have team based multiplayer. It only had death match.

The first official release for team fortress was TF Classic in 1999.

Tribes came out a year before.

Tribes was a spinoff of the Earthsiege series.

It came out in 1994.

You didn't specify that it had to not be a mod. The original TF may have been a mod, but it was a team-based multiplayer mod. Which fit your original criteria.
