Somewhere between paragons of virtue and blatant liars is the sweet spot.
And silly anti-politician lying laws that are selectively enforced don't move the needle towards that sweet spot, but away from it.
This. I don't like Boris Johnson at all, but what he's on trial for, is absolutely nothing. It basically boils down to simplifying a number. Saying 350 000 000£, and ignoring the money coming back, so it would be more true saying 250 000 000£. Every single politician, in every single country do this. Not technically a lie, but absolutely misleading.

Even trusted and respected media outlets do this all the fucking time. Creating a false narrative by telling the truth, but not the whole truth.

Selectively enforced laws is anarcho-tyranny, and it's really not what anyone should be cheering for.

Selectively enforced laws that restrict fundamental human rights doubly so. Yet montegriffo trusts the government to restrict everything he doesn't see any utility in, thinking it will be for the greater good. Monte believes that the burden of proof is on people to convince him that it shouldn't be illegal, instead of on him to prove why it should be, even when it's a fundamental human right he wants restricted, he always errs on the side of authority over liberty.

Where was the stay campaign buss? You meet arguments with counter arguments, not repression.

I'm sure a buss with the text "Keep calm. It's only 250 million £" would have done the trick. They would surely have won.

This new trend of trying to prosecute political opponents when they win is truly disturbing.

It's not like the remainers didn't have their own lies either;
Like how there wouldn't be an EU army. Or how Brexit would start WW3. Or how the economy would collapse (fair enough, they aren't out yet, so can't disprove this, but there's no proof this is going to happen).

The EU army is the worst one though, as it was thoroughly denied, yet it happened just a few months later.

It's like I say, if you make a law against politicians lying, then you are going to have to charge them all for it not to be selective enforcement. Even if they did that, the old stale liars would simply be replaced by new fresh liars, the lying would not stop. Making a rule against lying will not stop politicians from lying, politicians are professional liars, hoping they will become paragons of virtue if there is a legal penalty for lying is naïve and counterproductive, plus it is a restriction of fundamental rights for no good reason.

I think an EU army has been taken seriously and on the drawing board for so long, it's absurd to think it wouldn't happen. It's been talked about in serious terms even before Macron and others started to push harder for it.
