Why is the solution to Covid quarantining everyone instead of just the few who are susceptible?
Because ALL of us are susceptible. The fuck universe are you living in?

Three children just died in NYC this weekend. This meme that it's just killing boomers and diabetics was always false.

If we had a competent administration we'd have community testing right now and a containment strategy in place. Reopening the economy would have been feasible.

You need to take a step back - go drink a beer or five.

Diamond Princess was first clue that not everyone is going to get sick from this - the CA and NYC studies provide more evidence that not everyone is going to get sick from this.

For fuck sake, on the Diamond Princess, one couple in the same cabin - male tested positive and female never tested positive or showed symptoms.

Back away from the cliff.

If you want to safely reopen the economy, you need community testing to the level that will contain enough new cases that the reproduction rate falls below 1.0.

That's it. The only reason we don't have that is the Trump administration. Plain and simple. Nobody else is responsible for the lack of tests. Nobody else is confiscating tests governors try to purchase from overseas because the federal government failed.
It’s pretty clear that we don’t have any sort of reliable test, nor is one coming any time soon.

Might as well just accept it then, I guess. No option but to reopen.
Wrong.

If the federal government is so incompetent that they cannot manufacture tests, then they could buy them from South Korea or Germany. The fact is, and has been so since day one, that the federal government opposes testing. They have done everything possible to shut down testing.

Oh so now we moved the goal post from "only a few people can get sick" to "Diamond Princess proves not every single person will get sick". Interesting.

Diamond princess showed most people never get sick. It was a floating petri dish of 800 old farts - 10 deaths. Stop it.

Half the passengers got sick, dude. AND they were locked in their rooms in quarantine.. duhn duhn duhn. LOL If you are going to use the Diamond Princess as an argument to "reopen the economy" then you might want to consider the little niggling detail that the entire ship was locked down in quarantine for a month.

Tell me again how only a few of us are susceptible. This magical thinking amuses me.

You’ve lost your mind again. You can sit in your closet scared to death of a virus that seems to have a 0.0125% kill rate. The other espoused stats are not measures of a total population - only symptomatic people are even allowed to get tested.

A day late and a dollar short, the mainstream is beginning to accept that it isn't just lunatics or racists that want to get back to work.
Hopefully the fringe will also acknowledge that it isn't just freedom-hating, work-shy, Marxists that don't want to go back to work.

The pre-condition still remains, is it safe to do so yet?
Without showing that the rate of infection is low enough the shops, bars and restaurants will remain empty.

Boris is going to address the nation in 5 mins to lay out the blueprint for re-opening the economy. It's expected to be a slow and cautious approach.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

I am not sitting in my closet scared to death. I am quite fatalistic about eventually catching covid and having to roll those dice. The point of argument here is that you people are not living in the real world. You make up stats to convince yourself this is not once-in-centuries deadly pandemic. You make up history to convince yourselves that quarantines are unconstitutional, or that the state cannot make you wear masks (that shit is hilarious too when you all get confronted with facts and you try to smokescreen that shit away so as not to have to confront reality). You refuse to consider what will happen to the economy if the republicans are wrong and we get a massive wave of covid infections and death as a result of this dingbat effort to reopen the economy without sufficient community testing and contact tracing.

Completely delusional. And if somebody tries to shake some sense into you act like this person is for endless lock downs and they must hide in fear in the closet. Get fucking real, dude. To reopen our economy we need community testing and contact tracing. That's not a giant request. Countries like South Korea all but eliminated their epidemics. If our government is so utterly contemptible and useless that they cannot do the same, then we need to replace the entire thing.

This is your problem right here:

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/p ... er-995930/

If you give a shit about the economy, you need to fight for community testing and contact tracing. That article lays out how horrific this administration has handled the pandemic and continue to do so, making ideological decisions rather than scientific decisions.

You don't have to be a freedom-hating, work-shy Marxist to want to avoid work in a free open society.... but it probably helps. ;)
