Being proud of a skin color or sexuality, is like being proud of breathing.

Yup, but some people still feel pride about that stuff, and that has never not been the case either. Whether or not they should feel pride in something, doesn't seem to have that much impact on whether or not people take pride in it, and that's not a new phenomenon.

People can change, can learn. People are capable of understanding those things, Capps. Capable of being aware of, and thus trying to reduce the impacts of bad habits.

Except that hasn't happened yet, and isn't going to happen. Some people can change that, but most won't, most haven't, and that is extremely unlikely to change in the future.

They probably have nannies too.

Hmm... I've long said that people tend to romanticize that which they aren't part of or haven't experienced. Cosmo writers and their social circles pining for father figures, having only been brought up by nannies, socialite mothers and absentee fathers. Just gets more and more tragic.

What you consider to be "sufficient" will never be achieved by most human beings, wishful thinking dude.

While I'm not an idealist, I've seen enough historical evidence that there's a point in trying to better a society. History is shaped by those that dare, those that don't just bow their heads and say: "Well, this is how it's always been, nothing's ever going to change. *resigned sigh*" . There are things that never change, but there are also things that do. At the time of its inception, plenty of European powers never thought a state founded on such radical ideas as the one's that led to United States, would be able to survive, much less thrive.

Yeah but what you are talking is something that is never going to change, not something that can. You may not be an idealist, but on this whole pride thing, you are. Might as well ask for an end to war or poverty, ain't gonna happen dude, you can make the world a better place, but that isn't going away. Pride is always going to be a human foible, and tons of people are going to continue to take pride in things that you don't consider to be accomplishments, so get used to it.
