Those horrible no-good corporations and their huge selections and low prices. Screwing us all.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 10:01 pmCostco and Walmart are like the price sheriffs.
I'll walk into other stores and see the effects.
I can tell, this discount is trying to match Costco, Walmart has forced them to match that price, etc.
When the Costco gas station closes at night, the gas prices go up all over town.

It's like night and day since the Americans entered the market, no mo gougin'
Never mind that Costco has the highest paid employees;
$21/hr, is $7/hr more than the Canadian retailers pay

Neither Wal-Mart or Costco have a monopoly, they just buy in bulk and thus can afford to undercut the price gougers, hence their success. Sure they get some government subsidies as well, but that is not the source of their wealth, not even close.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 8:43 amUndercutting the market through monopolistic control and government subsidies. Of course not. They’re just able to create exponential benefits from the subsidies to big Ag, and themselves.StCapps wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 11:07 amNeither Wal-Mart or Costco have a monopoly, they just buy in bulk and thus can afford to undercut the price gougers, hence their success. And yeah, Walmart is infamous for their “exclusove contracts” with suppliers, and near total control over them. They don’t ‘compete’ for supply. They just outsource the farming of their goods.

All of us I tell you! Why do we need more than one brand of shoes? Why can't we just have a nationalized store that carries everything we need?Fife wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 4:47 amThose horrible no-good corporations and their huge selections and low prices. The selection at Walmart here is very locally sourced.
The entire grocery area is locally sourced.
Contrary to the image of an American invader, there is a wide selection of excellent Canadian made product at Walmart Canada.

Contrary to the narrative of the American big box wiping out competition, there is exponentially more competition now than when I was young.
When I was young we had three or four choices, now we have like twenty choices.

You should see the Polynesian influence on my local Walmart. It is Hawaiiana all throughout that mofo. Someone could setup a Walmart Tours travel agency to get to know the locals.
