You probably dont really believe in archetypes/universal truths do you? You're far more Aristotelian than Platonic, correct? If you don't believe in an "essence" or America or much really then you wouldn't feel like we are on the precipice of disaster. You have to define what America is and what it means to be American for us to have a grown up debate worth having. Go.

I am committed to what I think are patriotic American ideals, even when they are imperfectly executed. I would phrase it as being more process-oriented than result-oriented.

I can't concisely define America, but assume that whatever "essence" you think is American is probably not too far from something I would agree with - and I still don't think we are on the precipice of disaster.

I can't say as I've ever really understood the concepts of Aristotelian or Platonic - but the extent to which I think moderation is a virtue is only a result of skepticism and uncertainty. For example, I am skeptical of claims that White Supremacy is the unspoken motivation at the heart of all American politics, and I am skeptical of the idea that a vast society of Communards are working behind the scenes with shadowy investors to destroy or pervert America.

Many revolutionaries and violent people were not taken seriously until it was way too late. A sizable amount of monied people in this country are funding subversive /communist propaganda and ngos etc. Course you'd have to believe America was more than "muh freedom" or "muh diversity" to think its being or been subverted.

You don't like people with money buying a political voice? Sounds like communist talk to me. "Muh citizens united" and all.

I like the family, life, God, virtue, and community. Bribes aren't worth saving.

I like that shit too. I also like institutions and laws that are designed to guard against conflicts of interest. Not particularly worried about the Koch(s) or Soros, though. They aren't conflicted, they know what they want and are trying to buy it. Bully to them. Especially if we get some concert halls and museums out of the deal.

Well, I don't think we would disagree on the efficacy of masks, but I don't see it as conditioning obedience any more than the state locking you up for going about with your genitals out, or any other number of accepted social practices backed by the force of the state.

Obviously, you don’t listen to my podcasts. America is defined legally in the Preamble of The Constitution: to secure the benefits of liberty to ourselves and our POSTERITY. (That last word is where we’re failing.)

Masks? Meh. Not quite the same thing. I've been under forced mask indoors rules for a while, and I where my American and Gadsden flag bandannas. Don't feel less free, for it.
