Again, why are contemporary Marxists so afraid of it? I used to know dozens and dozens of Marxists 25 years ago who wore it proudly, and their policy positions were less radical in many respects than what is thrown around today by "social democrats" or "progressives" or whatever.

A wee bit of intellectual honesty goes a long way in making arguments, and friends.

Those Marxists you knew were probably interested in joining the revolution of the working class against the owners of capital... you know, actual Marxists...

Crazy right?

The progressives you are talking about want to do things like improve welfare benefits, increase the minimum wage and push carbon taxes... which have nothing to do with overthrowing the owners of capital... so therefore are not Marxists.

This is pretty simple stuff people. Not that complicated.

But go ahead and call them all Marxists if it floats your boat...

I know you don't like anyone telling you what to do.

No, that's how they self-identified to me. I didn't "name" them anything.

I have no interest in telling someone what they should or should not call themselves. I do find the sophistry curious/amusing, tho; fashions change in a flash.

What good is it increasing minimum wages and welfare, if you're going to crush those very same people under "carbon" based hydro and heating rates which even the well to do can barely afford to pay?

Shoot the Marxists, hang the Progressives; bullets is cheaper than hydro, rope is cheaper than gas.

Xi Jinping; Blam! Kathleen Wynne; Snap! The Chinese should rise up against their opressors and we should rise up against ours; problems solved.

How meaningful is it to consider China a communist nation? I think it's pointless.

The "better mouse catching cat" has been in use in China for a long time.

What China is the perfect example is of a state run capitalistic system. That's what the socialist market economy of China is. It is rather more closer to classical fascist system than anything close to Communism.

To ponder about Communism is quite nonsensical. If you are to discuss state run capitalism, it's really something different. Even though the Chinese Communist Party naturally say they are extremely communist.

But I guess you don't make any differences between the various leftist ideologies as all are just swarewords. Like whatever.

It's not like Communism and Fascism were ever all that different in practice, but all of a sudden we can't call a Commie spade a spade? Like, whatever.

Deng Xiaoping wasn't a Communist? Pretty sure he was, fuckstick.

Then you don't make any differences with the various systems, asshole.

So North Korea is communist, China is communist, Sweden is communist, Canada is communist. Everything is just communist leftist bullshit. Everything except, well, not any country that is.

I'm with Smitty on this: you fly the Hammer & Sickle, de facto "Communist." And people who espouse Marxist ideology are Marxist, I don't care if they say they're "Progressives" or not.
