Here's my thing on these bans, if they are not a predator and the neighbors dont know you have it or care, what's the problem?Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 6:03 pmGlad I no longer live in Yankeeland.
Though, I swear to God, if that guy's rooster down the street ever gets out again and stands in the road I am fucking running that little shit down.

Usually just noise if there are roosters, but generally I think the problem the urban do-gooders have is just simple contempt and bigotry towards country people. They don't want to be associated with anybody that is anything like rural, and nothing screams rural like chickens running around in the yard.clubgop wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 6:51 pmHere's my thing on these bans, if they are not a predator and the neighbors dont know you have it or care, what's the problem?Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 6:03 pmGlad I no longer live in Yankeeland.

Think of all the stupid shit that these HOAs do. You can't even garden in a lot of these places. It has to be useless landscaping and very expensive grass. They want that particular NPC suburban look throughout.

When I think of Urban to me that means no open land at all anyway. A balcony at most is what you got. Yeah you cant have a goat in your condo lady, it's not a pet. But if your neighbor is a fucking golf course, I'll have a chicken coup if I want a chicken coup.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 6:59 pmUsually just noise if there are roosters, but generally I think the problem the urban do-gooders have is just simple contempt and bigotry towards country people. No chickens at all. In fucking Ohio.clubgop wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 5:31 pmSo no chickens at all or a limit on chickens?SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 5:16 pm1 - the chicken ban. Nobody is allowed to own chickens outside of a rural zone. This is insane. The state of Ohio took up the issue this year to reverse the ban, but our town and 1,000 others wrote a letter to protest it. Without consulting voters.
2 - the farm market. Some clown walks into the town council meeting a few weeks ago to protest that the farmers market blocks traffic and hurts sales ( it’s in a park, and doesn’t block anything).
I thought you said the farmers market was exempt once a week now they are a target? Sounds like a busybody, I don't think the grocers care that much, produce has shit margins and is labor intensive. A weekly farmers market probably wouldn't even effect shrinkage.
The only way this even makes sense is busybodies and big Ag don’t like it.
The farm market thing is equally absurd. The businesses downtown don’t want increased foot traffic, at the expense of competing with some shmuck selling t-shirts.
From the town council notes:
Crandall repeatedly went back to the fact that they were allowing venders in the farm market that sold products that directly competed with downtown businesses including t-shirts, wine glasses, jewelry, and soaps. He stated, “It’s not fair to sell things that are also sold in the local stores.
These fucking clowns can’t deal with even the slightest hint of competition. She stated that they first became aware that the downtown merchants were unhappy with the variety of products being sold at the farmers market two or three years ago. She went on to say that at that time, they started looking at the vendors that were attending the market and this past season they eliminated 12 vendors to reduce the non-edible items being sold. She stated they are also discussing changing the hours of the market to 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
It goes on and on with bitching about chairs being set up to watch parades and local musicians. Because that’s the reason you can’t sell nautical-themed garbage in Ohio.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Well they have a point there. Unfair competition is the gripe. I have to pay all these licenses, taxes, and occupancy fees and endure all these inspections but some dude can come along and glom onto the busiest day of the week and set up some ramshackle business and steal from me , yeah, no I'd be pissed too. A farmers market is one thing, a flea market disguised as a farmers market is something else entirely. These fucking clowns can’t deal with even the slightest hint of competition.

Your reasoning is starting to fail here this isnt about a loss of community or the rise of corporatism. These complaints and matters are local politics since time immemorial. History doesnt begin just when you start paying attention. These fucking clowns can’t deal with even the slightest hint of competition.

+1 I'd love to see people start showing up to SF's workplace and start offering to do SF's job for less money. Just walk right in and be allowed to work for less on the spot while SF gets laid off until the migrant workers decide to move on.clubgop wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:04 amWell they have a point there. Farmer's markets are rigged as fuck too, honestly. Good luck trying to break in there. You have to get permission to sell there, and the people that run the market are the major sellers. They don't like competition either.
Flea markets are about the only free market we have, really.
