Oh, one of these theoretical things. How many ships, how many nukes and so on...
Or then the reality:
The rest of the World knows that your nukes bite. But they also know that all the other nukes of the World also bite too and a bit more than the US 80's based ancient nuclear deterrence. So nobody wants a full scale war. Hence the rest of the World just stops using the dollar based currency system and stops lending to you. Then your whole system that finances your government crumbles. And the more you put to just to maintain your present army, the less there is for everything else. Then it's just time to watch before you start killing each other. I mean, hasn't many even here talked about a new civil war? Haven't you noticed how people get nervous about looting if there's a natural disaster, not coming together at a time of need? The hatred of your own fellow citizens is quite evident. Hence it's childsplay to work on that and just look at America defeating itself.
But that's just bullshit as the whole question as just why would Canada be against you? You don't have any problems with Smitty's people. Yet what is true is that Americans themselves can fuckup their position and lose that Superpower status. It's not going to happen with a stronger opponent emerging, it's of own doing.
Just as with West-Rome, after them came uh, nothing for a while.

It's a endless wilderness up there, I mean, maybe it doesn't look so big on the map, but when you get up there, you might as well be on another planet for all intents and purposes large scale military related, the Canadian Forces would be more than enough to grind any invasion force through the north to a halt, it's not like you can roll Guards Tank Army Groups around up there.Speaker to Animals wrote:I wonder if our Alaskan natives are as dangerous as yours in Yukon. Those guys would be a terrible force to reckon with if they went insurgency.
The two brigade combat teams America has in Alaska, that's more than enough to make any amphibious operation against the Alaskan wilderness a total non starter.

What we are talking about comes after the nukes. Everybody knows there will be no invasion of CONUS itself before Americans are like "fly my little pets, fly!"

Nukes are vastly overrated, it's a not a magical weapon that allows to you to win a war at the push of a button, whenever it is that somebody tries to use nukes to win a war, then the world will find out, it's just a big bomb, and just bombing people, doesn't actually win a war for you, generally, it just makes them fight harder.
And besides, once you nuke the CONUS, not only is there no reason to invade anymore, but trying to invade an irradiated ashtray with all the infrastructure destroyed, would just make the invasion exponentially more impossible, now your tenous line of communication is not only beset on all sides by insurgents, but it's also a radioactive fallout zone, and everything you are capturing along the way, is just a burnt out husk of rubble and ruin.
Rule number one for invasions, don't wreck the place before you invade, because once you're in, all that infrastructure you wrecked, is now your infrastructure, as the Americans found out in Iraq.
They get to Baghdad, after destroying the power grid over a decade of bombing, and they say to the Iraqis "how come the lights won't come on?" lol

You know, there's actually a pretty detailed study kicking around, which calculated prolonged conventional bombing to actually be far more destructive than nuclear bombing, and that if America had simply dropped atomic bombs on Japanese cities, the death toll and overall devastation would have been exponentially less than two years of sustained conventional bombing, which is probably why, when the Japanese high command was informed about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they basically just shrugged, made no difference to them, cities being flattened was the routine, so contrary to popular myth about it being the reason they capitulated, their actual response was more like "and?"

How do you convince two marines and a sailor that America can't take on the entire world at the same time?

In this case it would be war in general, not just the nukes.Smitty-48 wrote:Nukes are vastly overrated, it's a not a magical weapon that allows to you to win a war at the push of a button, whenever it is that somebody tries to use nukes to win a war, then the world will find out, it's just a big bomb, and just bombing people, doesn't actually win a war for you, generally, it just makes them fight harder.
US vs the rest of the World? Talk about extreme hubris. Nah,
Texas vs the US. Now that's a question.
I'd gather that Texas would win. Southern states would stay at the side and watch what happens, California would have a hysterical breakdown and the Federal State would likely fumble it. New York wouldn't do anything else other than hold a big Kumbayah-event holding hands and promoting that everybody should be friends and war isn't the answer.

Texas has already fallen, it ain't the Texas it used to be, same thing with Virginia, Dixie is simply being displaced out of existence, slowly but surely, by osmosis, so Texas would actually split just like the rest of the country, down urban-rural lines, people in Dallas and Houston and Austin? That aint no Dixieland no more.ssu wrote:In this case it would be war in general, not just the nukes.Smitty-48 wrote:Nukes are vastly overrated, it's a not a magical weapon that allows to you to win a war at the push of a button, whenever it is that somebody tries to use nukes to win a war, then the world will find out, it's just a big bomb, and just bombing people, doesn't actually win a war for you, generally, it just makes them fight harder.

One additional point just why the US would lose to the rest of the World.Smitty-48 wrote:Texas has already fallen, it ain't the Texas it used to be, same thing with Virginia, Dixie is simply being displaced out of existence, slowly but surely, by osmosis, so Texas would actually split just like the rest of the country, down urban-rural lines, people in Dallas and Houston and Austin? Would be quite easy to get American fighting each other.
(Hmmm....wonder what Putin's up to here?)

This is why I say it's already like a giant South Vietnam, you've got the Mandarins trying to rule from the cities, and the NLF peasants out in Fly Over Country, get them fighting with each other, fine, but don't get in between them when you do, contain it, but otherwise, never get off the boat.
Gulf of Chesapeake Resolution? Yeah, ah, no, bad idea.
