Re: Beyond Woke
Welp, we just had the real MAGA and that shit got shut down in four years.
So ... looks like Reagan's 31 year streak is gonna hold the record.

this is where I would assert that we passed through an epoch in the 90's
MAGA would not have happened if everybody had been on the internet back in 1979
this is uncharted waters, a new paradigm at the species altering level
the information tsunami, too much information, paralysis by analysis, Dutch Reagan didn't have to contend with that

And it's not going to take it any more.
So its gonna change its gender.

the effect of the Information tsunami is paralysis
the info-proletariat doesn't actually take any substantial action at all
all they do is meme on their smart phones, it is in effect self imposed social control

think of the difference between movies for example, back in 1979, as compared to now
back in 1979, you had two local theatres, they each had two movies playing
you picked one movie out of four options, not too difficult, that
but now go on streaming services, thousands of movies, infinite choices
and yet more often than not, you can't decide what to watch, you just keep scrolling through limitless choices without ever watching a movie in the end
that is paralysis by analysis in a nutshell

More choices!
More genders to choose from...
More psychotherapies...
More medications...
More breakfast cereals....
No that one maxed out...
We must have hit max breakfast cereals a while ago.

Yup, I struggle with this mightily. This is a well known phenomenon in the psychology world. There is such a thing as too many options. One of the best things you can do to improve your mental health today is to artificially restrict how many options you have. It makes choosing easier, so you can just get on with your life.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 4:59 pmthink of the difference between movies for example, back in 1979, as compared to now

if you time warped my younger self forward from 1979 to now, the first and most glaring thing I would notice is everybody staring into their smartphonesTheOneX wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 5:44 pmYup, I struggle with this mightily. I would be shocked how little anything else had changed, the most profound change is Smartphone Zombies
just like if you transported a kid now back to 1979, first thing that kid would notice would be everybody smoking cigarettes everywhere
information paralysis has replaced nicotine as the opiate of the masses
not for me tbo, I don't have a smart phone, being from 1979 world, I still smoke cigarettes

the two drugs are profoundly different tho, in terms of the political consequencesMartin Hash wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 7:17 amExcellent observation.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 6:43 amif you time warped my younger self forward from 1979 to now, the first and most glaring thing I would notice is everybody staring into their smartphones

because when you are smoking a cigarette, that is actually when you are thinking, that is the break from work where you go internal and think
whereas the information paralysis prevents thinking, it's like an electronic jammer which jams a person's creative internal monologue
furthermore, the thing we carried around to pass the time back in 1979, was the pocket book
so when we were sitting on the bus, instead of watching Telescreen, we were reading books
