People only need to travel so that they can post pics of exotic food on Facebook to make their ex-partners feel jealous about how well they are doing since the split.
Fuck them, they can get on a train and go to their nearest big city for a plate of falafels if that's all they need.
Everyone can see the world on the National Geographic channel nowadays. It's only medieval castles that need to be experienced in the flesh and if you have to get on a plane to do that because you live in some backwaters shithole that wasn't even discovered until the 15th century by a Genoan who got lost trying to find India then tough shit. You should have advanced out of the stone age earlier and built your own castles.
No offense intended.
You have a house in France. Why do you get to travel and live in two places, but it is frivolous for others. Why do you get to decide what travel is reasonable?
I don't fly to France despite the fact that it would be cheaper. I drive there in my 50 mpg, 20-year-old car.
I don't live in France, my trips there last year were a necessity due to the ivy and wisteria growing out of control and risking damage to the roof tiles.
I hadn't been out there for 4 years and could not risk neglecting the place any longer. TBH, if the place was worth anything I would have sold it years ago but as I get closer to retirement age the idea of living out my dotage in the French countryside appeals more and more.
I've not been abroad just for a holiday for 20 years when I drove to Portugal and back with a couple of mates in my motorhome. The last time I flew anywhere for a holiday was 1994 when I went to Egypt for about 5 weeks.
Even my castle tour was filling in time between two work gigs in order to save the fuel involved in driving all the way back to Suffolk from Cumbria
and then returning back across the country to Wales 2 weeks later.
