Britain’s Conservatives Took a Beating.
They lost almost 500 seats. All the Lefty parties gained them. Take-away: MAGA can win but NeoCons are losers.

In a probably unrelated event, they’ve banned their own flag from vehicles, as it may be offensive.

Only a particular council who have strict rules on what you can put on a taxi.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:22 pmIn a probably unrelated event, they’ve banned their own flag from vehicles, as it may be offensive.
No flags are allowed British or otherwise on mini-cabs.
The mini picture is misleading. There are no restrictions on private vehicles or anything but taxis in one county.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

I’m guessing that county is the equivalent of our California. A place to be avoided at all cost.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 3:48 pmOnly a particular council who have strict rules on what you can put on a taxi.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:22 pmIn a probably unrelated event, they’ve banned their own flag from vehicles, as it may be offensive.

Shropshire is pretty nice. It's on the Welsh border and has some nice castles.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 4:41 pmI’m guessing that county is the equivalent of our California. The no flags rule wasn't aimed at the Union flag. It was so you don't have one lot of taxis with Israeli flags and another with Palestinian ones. Or Indian and Pakistani flags.
It's about avoiding conflict.
Obviously you can't just ban certain flags or political parties so you have to ban them all.
The whole Union flag story is just a bit of Daily Express faux outrage whipped up by a Brit' Nat' cabbie.

How about just not banning flags? If people don’t like a political flag, the taxi goes out of business.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 5:41 pmShropshire is pretty nice. You’d get a hell of a reaction if you tried that here.

Confederate flags at Nascar springs to mind.
''On May 19, 2016, the United States House of Representatives voted to ban the display of Confederate flags on flagpoles at Veterans Administration cemeteries, by a 265–159 vote.''

NASCAR can ban whatever it wants at NASCAR races. The Feds can ban stuff at the VA. Not the same as banning something for private businesses across the board, as I’m sure you already understood.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 6:17 pmSome flags are banned in the US.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 6:06 pmHow about just not banning flags? A county council can impose conditions when they grant licences to operate as a taxi driver.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 6:30 pmNASCAR can ban whatever it wants at NASCAR races. As your short video shows they can also amend the regulations to permit taxi drivers to display the national flag.
A storm in a teacup whipped up by outrage peddling right wing media.
