Hey, dispersing Military Grade Arms, Vehicles and Equipment to local places within reach of the Insurgency. Doesn't bother me.

Let's see if some Police Department buys a M1 Abrams main battle tank. (Presumably the one with a Police Chief which wants to ante up from the neighbouring department which gets a Bradley)

M113 APCs are already used. But you never know if the terrorists will get their hands on a RPG-7 or something similar. Or high velocity/armour penetrating ammo that will punch through the thin armour of the M113.




Next thing will be that the APCs are going to be dark or with camo and low-viz markings. Just in case, like many policemen were now camo suits in a "tactical" situation.

Camo suited policemen with more firepower look to be "tougher" crimefighters, so I guess this trend isn't going to go away as "being more tough" on criminals/terrorists/whatever is allways a popular message.

In the US our big issue is our Police Academies, who teach Law Enforcement lives are more important than all others. My big beef is that in the US you can use munitions and engagement rules against US citizens that would get you court martialed on the modern battle field as a Soldier.

We need A LOT of reforms.

Reminds me when the local police here wanted to get new more powerfull sidearms:

The reasoning was that the most common cause for a policeman to use his sidearm is to kill an injured moose or other animal hit by a vehicle. Yep, try killing a huge male moose with a puny underpowered 9mm pistol can be pretty difficult.

Time for police to use deadly force:

The moose (in picture) was put out of it's misery shortly afterwards by the police.

The police try to adjust to the their environment like everything else. Looking at the police can tell you a lot about the state of a country. We currently have a gang related murder epidemic raging and a recent terror attack. That is going to reflect on how the police looks and acts in the end.

To have police like the Bobby is a nice goal for a society but you won't get there by changing the police.
