They aren't going there to train, they are going there to do what they are trained to do. Chew bubble gum and kick ass, and they are going to all be out of bubble gum.

The added forces would increase training and advising of the Afghan forces and bolster counterterrorism operations against the Taliban and the Islamic State affiliate trying to gain a foothold in the country.
Personally, I think that Afghanistan is a complete waste and it's time to come home!

Just give it time. The tone will change very quickly if things don't change fast for the better.

The speech was a little bit MAGA, but not as much as I'd like; however the ROE stuff was good as well as those few caveats. We're still there--at least some sort of plan has emerged. :|

To get out of Afghanistan without it becoming another ISIS stronghold we'd need to make a deal with the Taliban, and I don't think anybody in charge really has the stomach to do that.

We are fucking trapped as long as Obama's bastard child, ISIS, yet exists.
