Ya'll realize that election predictions aren't the same thing as popularity polls. A prediction that Trump had a .00000001 percent chance of winning could still be correct, even if the incredibly unlikely outcome came to pass.

I'm looking forward for interesting Republican primaries for the 2020 presidential election ...if we aren't then on a Pence administration for some reason and Pence has gotten control of the GOP then.

Still, there's a lot of time. Of course anything can happen with Trump. But any extrapolation from the past performance and knowing Trump won't change...

I just don't get why Trump goes to embrace such fringe as well, nukedog. Just like with the religious right, all they need is a few religious lines delivered here and there from "their President" and they will be happy. You don't have to embrace them as they would be the majority of your voters and carry all the time a bible where ever you go. And so it's with the alt-right. Perhaps Bannon has gotten Trump to think that the alt-right got him elected and only it matters. That he will otherwise lose so much so fast... That it wasn't people hating Hillary that got him elected.

Trump never embraced nukedog though. During the election he was hounded until he repeatedly denounced the KKK and other racists. After last weekend he again denounced racists and Nazi-sympathizers. A lot of the alt right embraces Trump (because it was their best option and he stands for border control) but Trump never embraced them.

Trump's beloved daughter married a Jewish person and (iirc) converted to marry him. Trump clearly has a very close relationship with the couple and seems happy with the situation.

Imagine if Nukedog had a daughter that wanted to marry and become Jewish. It would be a fate worse than death.

The truth is that Trump simply did a lousy job here. Any Republican President will ALLWAYS get flak from the press. But the thing is to avoid it, not go look for it.

If you have some lunatic drive many people down with one killed, you just simply condemn the attack and send condolences. You don't start talking about something else. Think about it in another context: if there's an ISIS terrorist attack, you condemn it and send condolences, you don't start there and then about the political environment of the Middle East or the roots of the conflict or something else. That signals something different. When people are shocked after some incident, it's not the time to start giving some lecture. You can do it somewhere else, but not then.

Hence Trump here just played so well into his opposition... because he cannot do anything else, it seems.

And if he wanted to play it to the alt-right, all it would have taken that first answer (the many sides reply) and then stick to his teleprompter speech later. And just talk about infrastructure now in the last press briefing. But Trump being Trump, of course now made it so that you can easily intrepret that the teleprompter speech was something spoonfed to him, which he didn't like at all.

One of the basics that every politician has to understand is that your words will be intrepreted in the worst way possible by your opponents. Hence you have to think what you say, as your message won't be intrepreted in the most positive way.

I don't think it was a lousy job. I think there is a kind of genius in it. Two years ago, if I told the average person on the street that the MSM daily lies to them and manipulates the truth, they'd not even consider what I said. They'd just reject it. Now anybody can SEE it well enough every single day. He baits them into putting all their cards on the table.

If this keeps going on, he really will be able to get away with some shit because NOBODY will care what the MSM says.
