Leaders don't do things that look logical anymore, which tells me a different agenda is at play.

We know who owns much of our political process, I have no reason not to believe Putin is evil because he told the New World Order to go Fuck themselves. That doesn't make Putin a saint or ally. It just makes him a man looking out for his nation.
