Yeah, I know, I have to read it.
I'm getting sick and tired of people insisting that they define America, on both sides. It's just worse coming from people who aren't rooted here yet insist their way is the American way. (Not saying this is Fife - he could have deeper roots than us for all I know.)

Re: Authentic America
In the past weeks I've heard people argue that authoritarianism is the American way, that socialism is the American way, that insert-your-religious-belief is the American way, but mostly that cities aren't the American way. Yet they are literally the font from whence the America sprang. They're older by far than the parts of the country that claim to be 'authentic America,' for one thing, and they're where ethnic Americans came from (I'm referring to people who are ethnically American). And the people arguing for their version of "authentic America" aren't themselves rooted here. They bring their culture and meld it with what was already here, and normally that's how we grow but now they're insisting that their new version of America is the only version.GloryofGreece wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 9:21 pmElaborate please.MilSpecs wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 5:59 pmYeah, I know, I have to read it.

From where I stand a lot of people are exactly the same as the immigrants they dislike so much: they're all imposing a foreign culture on America. The difference is that, traditionally, newcomers sought to assimilate.

You word that like you have an issue with the melting pot notion while I've seen you literally post we are a melting pot. The only issue you have with your fellow Americans is that they aren't liberal enough for your taste.
