Re: BIG Holiday Thread
I had a little mix and pastry left over so I made a second smaller pie which was thinner and it was better so that checks out. I'll try evap milk next time instead of cream as most of the recipes I just looked at used it. More than half of them used Libby's puree as well but as a chef I'm generally opposed to using processed ingredients plus I don't think it's readily available in the UK. The reason given was a dryer mix but straining overnight in a cheese cloth would achieve this. A few of the recipes added ginger but most were just cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. One or two added vanilla.
Anyway I'm going to try again taking everyone's advice into account.
Thanks guys (and gals).

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

I think the last time I used cloves was boiling them with cinnamon to make the house smell nice.Penner wrote:I would just maybe crush one or two because they are really strong.

They are good for toothache too but I've heard dentists say they burn the gums.MilSpecs wrote:I think the last time I used cloves was boiling them with cinnamon to make the house smell nice.Penner wrote:I would just maybe crush one or two because they are really strong.
