Why would it make more sense for Hash to start a new party based on the ideals of the old Democrat party? The progressives taking over his party are surely the ones that ought to be pushed out to be form a new, third party.

Because both the Ds and Rs have completely abandoned their principles. Form a moderate third party, and change American politics (and the world). He's got political connections, so it should be a lot easier for him to get a foot in the door. Just network and figure out the common ground, then form a group.

Love him or hate him, Trump has ripped the duopoly wide open. There is a genuine opportunity for the next decade or so for a third party to emerge.
