Bake the chicken.
Strip off the meat.
Put in large pot filled with water and bring to a boil.
Add rice.
Season to taste.

That's how you do it if you wanna be extravagant. If you're on a more meager route, only use half or a quarter of the chicken for each pot. I'd guess it gives you somewhere around 5 to 20 servings, based on how far you stretch the chicken, for less than ten bucks.

and now i have to make chicken and rice.

Yep.

But most of the poor have no culture to do those things, and a lot of them in the cities lack the ability to get to a large grocery store in the first place. They also lack kitchen space.

One thing we could do is build community kitchens that have large walk-in refrigerated areas that can be divided amongst families and a lot of ranges and ovens with lots and lots of counter space. You could offer them classes on how to cook these things and just provide the ingredients directly instead of an EBT card. Meanwhile you can couple the place with an after-school program for kids.

I am not sure if it would be cheaper than what we have now, but I think it would be healthier and better for people in the long run.

I'd love to go to community gardens and farms too. Give people a small plot of land to grow food on and have a larger community plot that everybody works on to pay for the cost of upkeep. They sell the produce of the community section and keep their own produce. If you combine that with community kitchens, you can start to offset a lot of these costs since the people are producing a lot of their own food.

You can try to butcher a chicken, prep vegetables, and cook a stew in that... or you can just spend $10 at a McDonald's..

They can't afford whole food, man. It's significantly more expensive to eat well when you have little money to spend on it. It's very cheap to eat fast food and processed items you get at a grocery store.
I don't buy it, because I see it weekly. Again they aren't cooking McDonald's, it's prepared for them. 7/11 takes EBT for Oreos and Sprite, they are going to do it because it feels good.

Use the food portion of EBT for Sunny D and a Slim Jim, gotta start the day right, use the cash portion for smokes and scratch tickets.
EBT should be limited to food staples - like wellfare used to be......

Will never happen though - elite's cash in on proles buying shit food that's cheap to manufacture with middle America's tax money.
When I wasn't pulling in any money, my wife and son were on SNAP, and I can tell you right now if it's handled right, you aren't buying shit...

We had $15 for fruits and veggies for a month, we had 2 Gallons of milk a month, and we had sardines, peanut butter, 1 pound of cheese, 64 ounces of serial...meats were not allowed.

Welfare is another story altogether, I can tell you right now you can tell the difference between someone on SNAP and someone who has a Welfare card... and yes there is a huge difference. Welfare you are given a monetary value, SNAP is a product allotment.

For my wife and son if they were to be on Welfare would get $375 a month for food. $515 if I was allowed on the system itself.

They weren't allowed on welfare because I lived with them... and made too much money through the year before hand.

I don't know how far I can follow a line that says people in America can't bake a chicken and boil water for rice. I'm doubtful many people living in American cities lack such basic amenities, or lack access to them if they wanted them.

I know some people don't have a full oven, and use a hotplate instead. Just throw the chicken in the pot and cook it that way, then all the fats, and flavors, and other goodies stay in the pot, instead of being left behind on the baking pan.

I really wanna go home and cook now.

You don't have to be rich to efficiently use space.

Put up shelves, get a small roller cart. Cook the damn food. People have been doing sine the dawn of man. Make it work. I say this as someone who's kitchen is not much bigger than what you show here. Space is always at a premium.

Oh come on, anyone who has a space that large for a kitchen and not using it correctly should be living as they are. Get paint, or make your own...

1 Cup of Salt
1 Cup of Flour
1 Cup of Water
food coloring if you want.

You got paint.

I get tired of these people who say woe is me, look at us, four people living in an apartment... Give me a break... two of your broke asses get a job. Bring in money, and work it out.

Some people here knew my situation, I hold no sympathy for those who are able bodied to not make it.

Also, My wife and I lived in an "apartment" that was 200 square feet... for $1000 a month. You don't know cramped till you live like that.

Add cheese and bake for 5 minutes at the end.

No, but you need space to efficiently use space..
