A suspected arsonist was arrested at Maxwell Farms Regional Park in Sonoma on Sunday afternoon after he was seen leaving a creek bed where a fire was burning, authorities said.
Three Sonoma County Probation Officers patrolling the area because of ongoing fires in the region noticed Jesus Fabian Gonzalez, 29, walking out of the creek area and a plume of smoke behind him, sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Crum said.
Sheriff’s Deputy John Grohl was called to the scene and extinguished the fire, which was then completely doused by Sonoma Valley Fire Protection District personnel.
Gonzalez was wearing a trench coat and told officers he started the fire because he was cold, Crum said.
Gonzalez lives under a bridge nearby and is well-known to law enforcement, he said.
He was arrested for suspected felony arson and transported to the Sonoma County Jail for booking.

In Santa Rosa, a homeless man was arrested on suspicion of arson Sunday after he was seen walking away from an area where a fire had recently been lit, officials said.
Officials say they don’t know whether the arson arrest is related to the wildfires raging in Sonoma County, which began a week before the man’s arrest. Cal Fire’s investigation into the cause may take weeks or months.
Jesus Fabian Gonzalez, 29, was arrested on suspicion of felony arson and booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
Three Sonoma County probation officers patrolling Maxwell Farms Regional Park just before 3 p.m. Sunday noticed a plume of smoke rising from an area near the Sonoma Creek, Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Misti Harris said.
Gonzalez walked away from the fire as the officers approached, Harris said.
“Nobody else was in the area,” Harris said.
Deputies with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department followed Gonzalez to a nearby McDonald’s. Gonzalez had “previous contacts” with law enforcement, she said.
Gonzalez told police he started the fire because he was cold, Harris said. Officers found a lighter in his pocket.
Gonzalez is being held on bail of $110,000, according to Sonoma County booking records — $10,000 for the felony arson charge, and $100,000 for a bench warrant issued in Ventura County.

You may be right in your thinking, but that last quoted line compels me to believe that the authorities have at least some evidence of his guilt for at least some arsonist culpability as far as the the keystone "probation officers" are concerned.

Didn’t mean that as a complete dindu on this. Did he start that little fire that the deputy rolled up on? Probably, based on facts provided. In which case (if so), yeah felony arson (and now, per their policy, if he has a detainer request - off to ICE with him ).
Breitbart was pointing the finger that this dude did the big one and all 40 bodies and however many billions in damages are on this guy’s head, which citing that one article - that dog don’t hunt.
