You can also apply for citizenship through the naturalization process from your home country.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Well, they could marry a citizen I guess.Okeefenokee wrote:...is a horseshit response. As though the only way to legally enter the US is with a green card.GrumpyCatFace wrote:
Green card waiting list.
If you have a family member in the US legally, they can sponsor you to increase your chances of being approved.
People need to drop this trope that it isn't possible to get into the US legally, which leaves no other option than to do it illegally.

We're trying to stop them from 'migrating their tribe', remember?Okeefenokee wrote:You can also apply for citizenship through the naturalization process from your home country.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Well, they could marry a citizen I guess.Okeefenokee wrote:

Where do we draw the line? There has to be certain "benefits" to citizenship, otherwise why would anyone bother with it? Here's some of the benefits currently gotten through citizenship:

Why would we start giving any of those things to non-citizens?

So right to vote, freely cross the border, potentially help fast-track other family members into the country, SS/Medicare benefits, federal/elected job opportunities (more job opportunity, might add to that ability to get a security clearance to work in some military tech fields).Advantages of U.S. Citizenship
Right to vote: The ability to elect the leaders of this nation is an exclusive right of US citizens. Becoming one of them gives you the right to vote in federal elections. Get a voice!
Reunite your family in the United States: To promote family unity, US citizens and legal residents are allowed to petition for certain qualified relatives to come and live permanently in the United States. Usually, only US citizens get priority when petitioning for loved ones. Bring your family to the US!
Obtain citizenship for children born abroad: If you are a US citizen and your child was born outside of the country, he or she could become a US citizen automatically.
Ability to travel freely across US borders: Enjoy all the benefits of overseas travel with a US passport! Get assistance from the US government and feel protected during your trips! Remember that as a US citizen the amount of time you spend outside the country is not restricted. Permanent Residents, on the other hand, may lose their status if they leave the country for a certain period of time.
Collect benefits: Take advantage of US benefits like social security and Medicare.
Become a federal employee: To be eligible for most federal jobs you need to be a US citizen. You can apply and enjoy the benefits of being a federal worker!
Become an elected official: Most elected posts in this country require US citizenship. Get the right to participate!
Why would we start giving any of those things to non-citizens?

The US gives away a hell of a lot of wealth derived from Tax Payer Dollars to Non-Citizens. Foreign Aid alone accounts for $ 50 Billion annually that's overt and easily calculable(I'm sure there's much more). Mexico for instance gets $ 135 Million annually, and we take in 10-15 Million of Mexico's citizens and gives them jobs, health care, education and public assistance.Ph64 wrote: Why would we start giving any of those things to non-citizens?
When we are $ 20 Trillion in debt, you'd have to assume we are trying to collapse the US.
Other Money we give away.
UN $ 10 Billion
NATO: $650 Billion
Cost of Illegal Aliens in the US: $55-110 Billion
We probably give away at least $ 1 Trillion Dollars a year to Non-Citizens, but that's not enough, now they want to be able to vote in our elections too.

Why stop there? No point in those rules about citizenship. We probably give away at least $ 1 Trillion Dollars a year to Non-Citizens, but that's not enough, now they want to be able to vote in our elections too.
