I don't think the Westphalian Nation State will particularly relevant in 500 years, whether or not a comparitive handful of Americans died in vain right at the very end of the First World War won't even be viewed at all.
The First World War has incited the Age of General Relativity, the pace of human history has accellerated by many orders of magnitude, we've had more change in the last hundred years then we had in the previous ten thousand, on the current trajectory, in 500 years, the United States of America won't even exist.
I'd be surprised if humans still exist, to be honest.

I think the USA has at least another century in the tank, but I don't think Westphalia is going to last too far into the 22nd century. It's not so much that the United States is going to implode, it's just going to become increasingly irrelevant along with all other Westphalian States, it will just evolve out of existence and become something else.
That is what like about this forum. All the cheerful, happy, optimistic members.

As we progress towards transhumanist demarchy, with everyone cybernetically networked worldwide, attachment to any particular territory will start to break down, your "nation' will no longer be a place, but rather a state of mind, it's not a question of breaking Westphalian States with force, they will simply come to mean less and less until they are an anchronism, this has already begun, people are not particularly loyal to sovereignty anymore, they are already forming transnational "parties" which transcend physical borders, there is resistance of course, but it's just a matter of time, eventually, the resistance will simply die off and/or be rendered moot.

We are the Borg. Resistance is futile.
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

You're the Borg, Snowflake, I'm the anachronism, it's your generation which is becomming a transhumanist demarchy, not mine.

This 'snowflake' uses a fountain pen. Could be, I'm just obsolete.

My fealty already transcends borders, the House of Windsor is my nation; 52 states, 2.2 billion people.
