I don't think the Westphalian Nation State will particularly relevant in 500 years, whether or not a comparitive handful of Americans died in vain right at the very end of the First World War won't even be viewed at all.

The First World War has incited the Age of General Relativity, the pace of human history has accellerated by many orders of magnitude, we've had more change in the last hundred years then we had in the previous ten thousand, on the current trajectory, in 500 years, the United States of America won't even exist.

I'd be surprised if humans still exist, to be honest.

I am not even convinced the United States will exist in 50 years, much less 500 years.

I think the USA has at least another century in the tank, but I don't think Westphalia is going to last too far into the 22nd century. It's not so much that the United States is going to implode, it's just going to become increasingly irrelevant along with all other Westphalian States, it will just evolve out of existence and become something else.
