You ain't foolin me, Doc. Your passive voice gives it away, you talk about it like you're some sort of third party observer.
lol

Smitty always keeping his eye on Doc Bolshie...

Truth is I was raised by liberal parents who had no real expectations on me...
My mom slaved away... I was the golden boy.
No idea how to do even the most basic chores by the time I left home.
Learned what I learned from my roommates in medschool.

My wife was raised by authoritarian parents.
Nothing was done for her.
She was expected to be out of the house and fully self sufficient by the time she was done high school.

We come from opposite backgrounds, but our parenting styles overlapped when it came to liberal parenting values.
The difference is that kids are a lot like me and not at all like her.
So the injustice factor is a lot higher on her end when they don't toe the line.

Truth is they could use some more discipline.
I'm happy to lay down some law... but it's hypocritical coming from me. I wasn't raised that way.
Still I'm entitled enough to have no problem with that.
On the other hand it breaks her heart to be hard on the precious little things.
And yet it's fundamentally unfair for her to always be slaving and ordered around by her kids just like she was by her parents.
So it's time to harden up on the precious little souls. It's good for them.
I probably could have used some of that myself. They'll be better off than I was.
I'm certainly backing her up.... but the real fire is in her belly.

I was raised by lefty beatniks, free reign, but free reign don't mean you get to sass them at will without paying the piper, free reign just means you make the choice for yourself, doesn't mean you don't get a whuppin', if you make the wrong choice and call somebody out, and either one of my parents, could get pretty damn old school, if I chose to cross them with contempt, it was a united front then, no shoulder to cry on, for the wicked.

I believe in parenting from the soul.
Justice is hard wired...
I'm not gonna crack down on them when it doesn't ring true for me.
The lady has to figure this thing out organically.
I'll back her up, for sure... as long as I can figure out where she's coming from.

The other day she went ballistic for no identifiable reason...
and we just had to do some detective work to figure out where the hell it was coming from.
I think we've got it figured out.

Well, your girl's only 13, I'm sure this is the high point for her attitude.

 .

I have 4 sisters. As teenagers they were fucking insane.

It's your call, but I stand by my Iron Lady, you cross her, you just crossed me, and if she's worn down to the point of flailing, the Smitty with Thunderbolts in Talons Grasped will come swooping in to rescue her, no questions asked, so you'd better recognize.

I don't doubt that for a second.
I think I have a handle on this for the time being.

But the truth is I appreciate Smitty checking my work. :D

I just went upstairs and checked with my wife, and she agrees with me, if she was stuck with the kids all day having to be the heavy, she would expect me to come home and present a united front with her, no questions asked. She makes the call, I back her up, I wasn't there to make the call, so it's not my call to make.

Have to agree with the childless canadian on this one. Daddy comes home and cracks that ass, if mommy had any guff from the serfs. It’s part of the job.

I was home when she went off.

It was a volcanic eruption.

She admits fully that she lost her shit.

I didn't need to back her up.... the kids were freaked right out.

That would have been like backing up a nuclear bomb with an apache helicopter.

So they got "freaked out", big whoop, poor wittle felwas n' all, but that's what you get for sassing the Tiger Momma.

I betcha she's nowhere near as scary as my momma, kids these days are just wusses, I was raised by the Dragon Lady, you don't fuck with Madame Nhu.

I once saw a grown assed man cross my momma; she threw his ass down a flight of stairs.
