The term "melting pot" first occurred around 1904 and was relatively unknown until 1920. It wasn't until the 1960s and the rise of institutional marxism that it became quite prevalent.

It's not in any way the founding principle of this country. Nor is the Statue of Liberty for that matter. Send that abomination back to France. It's literally a cult religious image from the French Revolution.

No, DrY. The point is that our immigration policy for CENTURIES was quite discriminatory. The idea that we should just let everybody come here and demolish our culture only came about in the 1960s. It has to stop.

But you have diversity... and have had it for some time now, (and you have benefitted from that diversity.)

Americans don't even get along with Americans at this point. We don't need to add even more people into it.

And we don't even need immigration right now anyway. We don't need anybody. We already don't have enough jobs.

This debate is kind of elliptical. I think DrY & I agree that immigration is by-n-large good, and that cultural appropriation & integration is a good thing. But that's not what we have now: The Left despises both cultural appropriation & eschews integration. They're divisory about diversity.

What would American be without Rock and Roll?
What would it have been if it hadn't allowed the population to expand through immigration?
What would it have been without the Irish and the Italians and the dozens of other immigrant groups that formed flourishing cultural hubs in your cities. The Chinatowns and the Little Italies.
You would have been less of a nation without your diversity...

That's not to say you should let it run out of control... I don't actually think cutting back immigration is necessarily a bad thing.
Take some time to consolidate... Pull yourselves together.
Immigration is not a pure good, nor a pure evil... but you have benefitted from diversity in the past and you likely will continue to as long as you are wise about it.
