I had one, papers signed, etc... the person was able to walk back on it because the agent on their end fucked up. I was forced to move into a rental property, and because of that, it took nearly 7 years for me to get my credit back on board to where it needed to be to get a house.

I have money saved up and we are looking now. As for my age, what does that got to do with anything?

As for where I am now, I have a book ready to be published, and I am pushing it out to publishers now. So I played it smart, I may be a "slave wage" but that's temporary, and so is my situation. I have gone through shit in my life and the old forum members know it, to come out where I am now is saying something... can we say the same about most people on this forum?

You need to be realistic - and realistically, becoming independently wealthy writing books is something that is about as probable as becoming independently wealthy by playing the guitar. Lottery odds, if not worse. I've been published in four or five books - still working. Martin has written a few books - but he couldn't live off the income from them I suspect.

As for what your age has to do with anything - you realize life is finite right? So ... if you don't get into a home mortgage until you're 50, and you got a 30 year mortgage, that shit won't be paid off till you're 80. If you manage to make it to 80, of course. Also consider - age of retirement is 67. Ask yourself how many people you see between the ages of 67 and 79 in the workforce, paying off their mortgage.

That's why it matters.

Fantasies of "making it big" in industries that have been actively dying for decades (like books) is all well and good - but you also need a viable plan for making it to retirement. Something beyond a highly improbable hope. Otherwise, we're all gonna have to chip for your rent and catfood dinner in a couple decades.

People make it big all the time. Athletes make it big, lottery winners make it big, YoutTubers make it big. But for all those we see, millions more squander time and money on ill conceived schemes, and even those that make it big often squander their fortune. People that make it big on merit generally pick one thing they are passionate about and dedicated, if not obsessive about doing that thing. And often for them, their primary goal isn't money.

I've accepted that some people are just going to be dreamers, going from one venture to the other, never fully committing, the idea of success in the venture is greater than the dedication and sacrifice to see it through.

Especially when you foot the bill for all the failed dreamers, who were previously calling you a "wage slave" and will soon be calling you "greedy" - that shit gets tiresome.

Grasshoppers don't plan, they fritter the Summers of their lives away on ill-conceived schemes and hopping about from leaf to leaf. Come winter they start demanding the Ants give them some of that food they stored up by toiling away all year. Same old, same old. Grasshoppers out here running their mouths today, and they'll be running their mouths tomorrow too - but they'll have their hands out tomorrow, demanding you give them what they were too lazy or foolish to store for themselves.

I just posted a thing on Right to Repair over in the good news thread. Right to Repair has become an Executive Order. I'm convinced that's 90% Louis Rossman. He didn't do it for fame or money. He did it because he runs a business and is passionate about repairing shit.

I looked a year ago on this subject, and Rossman was the only one really pushing it, besides a few farmers. He went out and got bills in state legislatures, created an Ape Army of people on YouTube on the subject, and I sincerely hope he ends up with Fuck You money.

That's an example of an Ant, building and Army of Ants to defeat the Grasshoppers.

I'm just suggesting that home ownership will do a great deal to cement the gains you've thus far enjoyed.

Otherwise you hit 67, you don't own a house, and if you live to be 90 you need to think about how you pay rent for another 23 years with no job.

If all goes well I'll have a house in a year's time. I am waiting to see what happens with the market, I know it's a risk but if all goes well, I'm buying some large acreage and building a house on it.
