You're really inspiring me to write an article on how a generation with unparalleled opportunity, unfettered direct access to consumers, unfettered access to interested investors, and historically high education see themselves as oppressed victims who should probably receive free money.

I'm not talking about you personally (as I think you're an older guy like myself), but I'm talking about the mindset. We're in an era right now where race, gender sex, and religion mater LESS than EVER in the economy - and our whole society is consumed with identity politics, playing victim, and demanding free money to ward off phantom threats.

When you look at the situation objectively you begin to fathom just how irrational human beings are.

More and more people every year are now losers, bums, failures, yet they, or their parents, were doing fine. Yeah it's all their fault.

The few studies I've read say that this rising inequality, including falling incomes and increasing unemployment started in then 70s mainly because of changing laws, taxes, and tactics like union busting. Followed by outsourcing, even when it was not profitable. Outsourcing was like a fad. The hot new thing that MBAs liked. Only in the past decade has automation really started to burn.

If the tax, industrial, and labor policies including supporting unions, job losses would probably be only a third of what it is now. That does mean the 1% would be much less wealthy as almost all the changes in policies, regulations, and laws have had the effect of funneling money upwards.

The solution to increasing wealth inequality is increased Progressive taxation & confiscatory Inheritance Taxes. The solution to job loss is Jobs-for-Everyone." In order to counter balance organizations like ALEC, or the Chambers of Business, social organizations like unions are needed. Unions can go bad like anything. The solution is reform.
