I blame the kid personally. I was young and dumb.. er once, so I still feel bad for him.

It's unfortunate that no one in his life was able to convince him to stay out of North Korea.
At that young age he probably believed himself invincible, as we all do. He probably thought his hijinks would earn him a reprimand, maybe a month in jail, whatever. He surely believed it was something he'd walk away from under his own power. He clearly had no concept of who he was dealing with, where he was, or what the rest of the world could do for him if he ran afoul of Kim Jong Un.

Severe price to pay for youthful ignorance and poor decision making.
Unfortunate.

This.

Nobody should be in North Korea, for any reason.

He reminds me of my oldest son.

I wonder what they did to fuck up his brain.

What a waste.

I'm still betting that the autopsy will show a crude lobotomy. Possibly chemical, but more likely just a stick next to the eye.

Of course, that won't be released to the public, lest we demand that they actually do something about it.

I heard something on the radio about botulism and a sleeping pill.

Couldn't the US bring charges against NK for what they did?

According to an official North Korean report, the University of Virginia student contracted foodborne botulism shortly after his March 2016 court appearance. The report said he fell into a coma after taking a sleeping pill and had not woken up by the time he was medically evacuated from North Korea.
