Shutter Island was not a good movie. Easily the Worst Scorsese movie in the last 15 years. It had its moments, but sadly it decided to go down the well travelled amnesia/multiple personality path. Fight Club is pretty overrated, but at least when it used the multiple personality thing, it was the first movie to do that. Nowadays, thats just lazy, uninspired writing.

People don't get the ending, that's why they hate on it. It got layers people, I'm fucking telling you, watch that again. It's not even close to Scorsese's best, but it's still a great Horror movie and it's not easy to make a good horror movie.

Its not hard to make a movie where you basically make the twist: "Whoa! He's got two personalities! That means everything you saw is wrong because we tricked you" Its been done to death. Come up with a new plot device. Its a well made movie, but I hate that kind of gimmicky shit.

Yeah but Scorsese uses that gimmick in service of a dope ending, so it gets a total pass from me. I hate that shit when it's poorly done, but Shutter Island isn't an example of doing it just for the sake of doing it, it has a purpose and it's well executed. If that wasn't the case I'd agree with you without reservation but the context a gimmick is used in matters.

I could be wrong about this, but if you did a Howard Stern style poll on random people they wouldn't know shit about the civil war or any US history. Maybe Trump is uneducated about the Civil War, but the comments I have seen him make about it, at least thus far, don't lead me to conclusion that he doesn't know anything about it because he wondered why it had to happen in a folksy way. That's just reaching.

DiCaprio used to be shit way back in the day when he was young as fuck, but the dude stepped his game up something fierce. Anyone who says DiCaprio can't act anymore is just a hater living in the past, he's been dope for decades.

I think you made the point, though. It's not about what he says, but how. He speaks off the cuff without any insight or information. He just tosses words into a bowl and makes a word salad and pukes it out at people. Most of it ends up being not true. It's just.... odd.
