Even with the Anglo-Saxon Parking Lot Safety Valve it may not buy them enough time to prevent an implosion. If they can't transition to a new economy before their cheap labor dependent export based economy begins to seriously wane as their wages rise, then they are right fucked. Without a major economic boom in the US and/or Europe to bail them out, they are in deep trouble because their people are too poor to buy the shit their economy runs on in the bulk necessary, and right not the US and Europe ain't doing so hot.Smitty-48 wrote:Thing is, because they can park their dollars in safe harbours, America, Britain, Canada, Australia, this acts as a safety valve, this is what I mean by propping them up, they don't have to confront the crisis of Communism, because we give them someplace to flee to while the centrally planned crises sort themselves out, buys them time and space, if the Chinese were locked into their own little world, nothing but RMB and Chinese banks, that would be the very thing, which would incite the panic, which would bring the whole house of cards down, King Dollah bails Beijing out, by providing quality to flee to, if they couldn't flee to the Anglo-Saxon Parking Lot, China would implode upon itself.StCapps wrote:Turns out that ghost cities aren't a very good investment. Who knew? Well the Japanese know all about real-estate bubbles, but this sucker is going to dwarf that. The Chinese elites know to, and that explains the asset flight out of China.

King Dollah will bail them out, to avoid contagion, he already is. The Americans won't bring the Chinese down, they'll just remind them who is King.

They might not have a choice, bailing out China to the extent necessary might be too expensive to be politically palatable and then China is boned. Hell even if the Chinese manage to avoid collapse thanks to an American bailout, their growth rates are seriously going to come down to earth, so either way, talk of China as the next superpower is being oversold by the media.Smitty-48 wrote:King Dollah will bail them out, to avoid contagion, he already is. Well, the Americans could weather the storm, but they don't want that kind of hassle, even the Trumpster doesn't want to kill the Chinese goose, Xi went to Mar-a-Lago, and everybody was getting along, they'll work something out, America has too much invested over there, to throw them to the wolves.

Well if they can keep it going, I'm sure they will, but it could be a humpty dumpty situation. China has big enough troubles holding China together, and even with US help it might not be enough to prop up that much dead weight.Smitty-48 wrote:Well, the Americans would weather the storm, but they don't want that kind of hassle, even the Trumpster doesn't want to kill the Chinese goose, Xi went to Mar-a-Lago, and everybody was getting along, they'll work something out, America has too much invested over there, to throw them to the wolves.

I disregard doomsday scenarios, first of all, if you think that you are ever on the precipice of a doomsday, you're not going to invest in anything, to include even a house, but second of all, if it is a doomsday, the mere fact that you weren't holding anything in the equity markets and collecting dividends on, prior to, is not going to save you, so you didn't dodge anything, hence, might as well just get on with it, relaxed in the saddle as you go, once you buy property, in any form, you're in the mix, in for a penny, in for a pound, not diversifying into other forms of equity, once you've purchased any major asset, doesn't make you any safer in the end.
To wit, once you've bought a house, you might as well just put your big boy pants on and diversify then, equity markets included.
If interest rates go through the roof, you can cash out and put your money in a savings account, but unless and until they do, you're not making anything leaving your money in the bank, and since a doomsday would take the bank down too, it's not any safer in the bank, in the event of.

And once you take that first step into ownership, all the rest come easier.Smitty-48 wrote:I disregard doomsday scenarios, first of all, if you think that you are ever on the precipice of a doomsday, you're not going to invest in anything, to include even a house, but second of all, if it is a doomsday, the mere fact that you weren't holding anything in the equity markets and collecting dividends on, prior to, is not going to save you, so you didn't dodge anything, hence, might as well just get on with it, relaxed in the saddle as you go, once you buy property, in any form, you're in the mix, in for a penny, in for a pound, not diversifying into other forms of equity, once you've purchased any major asset, doesn't make you any safer in the end.

When it comes to a decision on a new buy, you look at what you have and say, "worst case scenario, we sell all this and come out even."
We're looking at property.

Of course you'd invest in things. You'd by remote, arable land. You'd pay to build some kind of defensible structure on it, and possibly a bunker if you were really loaded. You'd fill an armory. You'd buy tons of freeze-dried food and seeds. You'd invest in greenhouses. Just off the top of my head of shit you'd invest in.
The problem for the people with all the money this time around.. they can't fight, so they won't be the ones who hang on to any semblance of wealth or security if something like that happened. Only warriors naturally run a human society. It takes a pretty long period of peace for something like what we see today to develop on its own, and eventually the warriors will turn on it.
Wheel of life, I guess.
