OK, maybe I'm rooting back to the OP a bit much. I'm just not a fan of UBI, so I'll own my bias.

The term "income inequality" is a canard, though. A tool of the most evil among us to enslave the gullible majority.

I think income inequality is a ridiculous issue. The more advanced a society, the more income inequality will exist. People who want income equality should move to the Amazon rain forest and shack up with the Invisible People or something.

I am talking about the very real problem in our near future whereby an increasing number of people will be without jobs because we are slowly automating our entire economy. You have to address that. If you hate the idea of a UBI, then present an alternative that doesn't amount to "fuck 'em".
I don't know the alternative.... and I don't think anyone does. It's like asking the government in 1900 to come up with a plan for what we do after automobiles, airplanes, and rockets are ubiquitous, and nuclear weapons exist around the globe.

Human cooperation will find the way. Central planning will lead to pestilence, pain, and disease.

Anyway, back to IRL honest, serious, questions:

What programs would the UBI replace? ALL of them? if so, I might take another look. But if it is not 100% ALL of them, which ones get immunity?

If it is a 100% replacement, how much will it cost, and who will pay for it?

Who gets the UBI? Does a legal immigrant get it the first day off the boat? What about an illegal immigrant's anchor baby?

Just wondering.

It's like people in the early 18th century sitting around and trying to figure out the appropriate direction to transition the economy from the feudal/mercantile economy that was no longer functioning in their current world to something new.. Eventually, from that discussion, at least one guy had an idea..

I am all for looking at other alternatives, but this stuff I see against the UBI idea is just childish. Let's be realistic. What in the holy fuck is society going to do when we don't need workers??

Eliminating a myriad of agencies with all their overhead and personnel costs with one UBI agency and one uniform payment across the board sounds like it might be a more efficient way to go. Not that I know what any of the numbers might be, but it appears that gutting everything we have now and replacing it all with one thing could feasibly save money.

Let's get the Koch brothers to set us up on the ground floor of privatized and highly-regulated sterilization and assisted suicide services. At the same time we can secretly fund underground attacks on PP.

Except the horses never got a say in the matter.

We are more than beasts of burden. Human capital is vital to the progress of our species, and embarking on some Hitlerian enterprise of exterminating 90% of humanity could easily doom our species.

There also is genetic diversity at play too.

No. It's a bad idea. The human population will find a natural stasis as it is. The population should be a function of the carrying capacity of the planet, not because some asinine economic system no longer works. Get real.

Instead of exterminating humanity, maybe we should consider changing the economic system???

Another question comes to mind. What do we do when the recipient spends his entire allowance on the 3rd of the month on booze, hookers, blow, and the casino; and then has starving babies at home a week later?

Why should we let them spend that community allowance on that kind of shit anyway, when they have kids to raise? And what about cigarettes?

I would hope that if everyone is getting a UBI, they would be less inclined to tolerate that sort of behavior. Might be being optimistic, but

The rest of us can act like responsible adults. Try not to be a piece of shit next month. Maybe being broke for the next four weeks will help with that.
